Recently we had a home built at Coastlands, Whakatane. We were offered a basic plan which we were able to adapt according to our needs.
We were attracted to the idea of solid walls with an outer covering of brick and this, along with double glazed windows, has meant the house is warm in winter and cool in summer.
We had thought the suggested three months construction period rather optimistic but in fact we were able to move in a day early. This was in large part due to the overall organisation by Chris Ballantyne. There were no lay days and the work was of an excellent standard. Chris has been very approachable and listened to our needs. After completion Chris has not hesitated in coming to view and make any little adjustments that needed doing.
We have recommended Longview Homes to friends who looked at our house and are now in the process of building with them.

We recently engaged Longview Homes to build our new home in Opotiki. After difficulty finding an available builder in Opotiki we researched what Longview Homes could offer.
We decided to engage Longview Homes, Whakatane, and could not have been more pleased with the results. We would recommend Chris as an excellent project manager as he was always well organised, considered details and timing, and offered advice when necessary. His long experience as a builder was invaluable. It was clear Chris has a lot of respect from his contractors. He had a team of very good builders who were extremely hard working, and the finished product reflects their great workmanship.
We appreciated Chris' very professional management of extra items for our home, such as recycled Rimu floor, exterior timber cladding and custom granite benchtop. Chris always researched specific items and requirements and was very accommodating. Due to the nature of the solid wood system, construction of the house proceeded very quickly.
At all times communication with Chris was excellent and any queries were rapidly answered and resolved. The whole house building process was stress free from beginning to end. We have also received positive feedback from visitors to our home.

- Timelines were largely adhered to when set. The Covid-19 lockdown meant that we had the completion date extended, but we were kept informed of what the impact of the levels of lockdown meant for our job.
- The job was well managed and we were kept informed of what was happening at all times. We were also reminded of what decisions we needed to make in a timely manner.
- We are very happy with the quality of the work undertaken in our home. Tradespeople were a pleasure to deal with and accommodating of what we wanted.
- Chris took the initiative to challenge the engineer's initial recommendations and worked with him to facilitate a more cost effective option. He also recommended and facilitated the engagement of additional tradespeople who undertook their work to the same high standard.

Right from the start of the process of us deciding to build a house Chris was very helpful and listened to our ideas and requirements and worked with us to make our dream home a reality. Great communication and organisation made it so simple to alter the plans where it didn't quite suit our needs. Staying on track with time-frames and budget in the current building environment and terrible weather in the last 9 months is testament to his organisational skills.
Using Longview's Metra panel construction method meant we went from a concrete pad to a large house with walls and a ceiling in one and a half days and we have no doubt that it is a durable product that will withstand all the knocks of family life.
Chris and the team have done an amazing job with our home on the farm.
It's a shame in a way that this is our forever family home as we would have loved to work with Longview again.
