Rural Custom Design and Build
This custom-designed rural home was a particularly special project, as it was not only our client’s first time building—it was also their first time owning a home.

The site presented several design challenges. A small, triangular building platform surrounded by steep slopes limited the available floor plan options. During the consenting process, the local Territorial Authority also required additional assurances regarding slope stability. Longview Homes facilitated meetings between the engineers
and Council, helping everyone reach an agreed solution so the project could move forward.

Working within the available building platform, the home was carefully designed to maximise space, indoor-outdoor flow and the expansive views across the surrounding rolling farmland.
The completed home features three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a separate laundry.

The open-plan kitchen, dining and living area forms the heart of the home, with a raked ceiling creating an impressive feature and giving the space a greater sense of height and openness. A custom-designed kitchen was created specifically to suit the homeowner’s needs and lifestyle. The exterior combines brick cladding with feature areas of JSC vertical timber.

The natural timber provides a striking contrast against the brick while creating a modern rural home that is practical and largely low-maintenance—ideal for a busy homeowner.

A fixed-price contract provided the client with cost certainty before construction began. The expected construction timeframe was 21 weeks; however, through detailed planning, scheduling and strong project management, we were able to complete and hand over the home in just 17 weeks.

The finished result is a warm, contemporary and highly functional first home that makes the most of its rural setting, captures the beautiful farmland views and has been designed around the way its owner wants to live.
